The collection of songs and video was compiled personally by the founder of the label, Thomas Ruf who started Ruf Records in 1994 for the soul purpose of recording Luther Allison. Luther's son Bernard Allison joined the label in 1995 and things started growing from there.

After 12 years in the business, Ruf Records is inarguably a major blues record label. Those 12 years have produced 120 blues releases, 1.2 million records sold, 2 Grammy nominations, and 10 Handy nominations.
Thomas Ruf also wrote the liner notes which detail this extraordinary journey and why he picked the selection of songs that he did.
